I'm trying to transfer home videos to DVD using InterVideo WinDVD Creator. The IBM M51 PC has a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor and 1 GB RAM. The DVD recorder came with the computer.

The video transferred starts out fine but after approx 15 of video, one starts to notice that the audio lags behind the video. By the end (1 hr of recording), the audio is far behind the video and the two are completely out of sync. Is this a software problem or hardware problem?

I'd grateful for suggestions on what I should do to correct this problem.

Usually a software problem. It sounds like the audio and video length are different. I'm not clear on what you are using to capture or transfer the video, but this is often caused by dropped frames during capture.

Are you using a video card for capture? Which one? What format is the original video? Describe your process.

    And welcome to our forums.

I transfer the home video (in Hi8 format) directly from camera (Sony Digital Handycam) to the computer via a firewire using the video capture feature of InterVideo WinDVD Creater. My understanding is that the video is already in digital format at this point. When I play the transferred video on the computer, it plays fine. I have trouble when I record it to DVD. After a while, the audio lags behind the video. I'm trying to figure out if it's a problem with the DVD recorder or a software problem.

    Thanks for any suggestions.
