  1. I've got several vcd and svcd's I'd like to transfer to dvd.... I've extracted the mpg's using isobuster, and would like to create very simple dvd's now... but I don't want to re-encode the mpg files.

The only program I have any experience with is Nero, which (afaik) wants to re-enencode the video always.

Is there a simple/fast method to transfer mpgs from vcd or svcd onto a dvd video?

Yes, for VCD use TDA and for SVCD use SVCD2DVD.

I've been using ConvertXToDVD for my SVCD conversions. The quality seems as good as the SVCDs, but it does re-encode. You will also end up with extra room on the DVD, as the quality won't get any better with higher settings that would just take up more space. Nice if you want to put more than one SVCD movie on the same DVD. But I just put one on there.

Or you can make a DVD-SVCD, by changing the audio and not re-encoding, but all players may not accept it. Instructions here: https://www.videohelp.com/svcddvdr.htm

You can also use vcdgear to rip from the cd-r's then use as suggested TDA to author them.

But no matter what you will have to re-encode the audio from s/vcd's from 44100 Hz to 48000 Hz, No way around that but TDA will do it for you.

Also Svcd resolution is not within the dvd specs. so you will have to re-encode those vid's.

DVD Lab Pro will allow you to author using SVCD mpegs without the need to re-encode. It will upsample the audio for you. Be aware that as pointed out, SVCD resolution is not within the DVD specs, so play back may be unpredictable. This can include not playing at all on some players, or playing with a distorted screen on others.

  6. There's DVDPatcher too. Upsample the audio, patch the header and author. Quick & easy, like you asked for. Might work on your set-top, might not.

This is basically what SVCD2DVDMPG does (the freeware version of SVCD2DVD).

Yep. Thought I'd throw that one in there as well.
