Apologies if it's been asked before - I did look.
I have an Avi file with embedded (hard) subtitles which plays ok in Windows Media Player. If I convert/author the file to DVD with WinAVI that's ok with hard subtitles, but if I use Avi2DVD no subtitles.
Is there any way to get the subtitles with Avi2DVD other than using a separate .SRT file?

It can't be permanent subtitles if they dissapear with avi2dvd. Or maybe they are outside the overscan area and are cut off on your tv...
Check if you can extract the subtitles from the avi with virtualdubmod, stream->stream list. -
Tried Virtualdubmod as suggested. Just lists : AV1 audio stream 1 (tag 0x0055 MPEG-1 layer 3).
Would the encoder I selected (HCEnc) in AVI2DVD make any difference?
Don't think the titles would be outside the picture area - tried all the display settings on the TV. -
Sorted it out now.
Because the subtitles appeared when I played the .AVI file in Windows Media Player, I assumed they were hard subtitles, but there was a .SRT file in the same folder.
