Hiya...
Please move this if I'm in the wrong forum.
I'm finally attempting to convert those old VHS and Super8 to a DVD. I've tried a few things and they haven't worked well, so I've returned them (like one of those Dazzle converters that uses USB, and I even bought a Sony DVD recorder/VHS player combo unit). Neither one of those gave good results, but the combo unit seemed to be getting better. I've read about the Panasonic DMR-EH75V being very good, and it seems to get good reviews. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm just afraid it's a bit overboard for what I'm trying to do, especially at $400. But I'm just trying to get the best quality possible of course.
Thanks for any tips or advice!

I've used the Hauppauge PVR-350 for laserdisc to DVD captures. It's worked really well for me and it's much much cheaper than the Panasonic system you mentioned. The downside to using a PC capture card is that it involves a lot more for you to do - capture the video, edit it if necessary, re-encode (if you want), burn to DVD. Standalone recorders do offer the easiest way to go as you connect some cables, press a few buttons and you're good to go. There's been some talk in other forums about a good standalone model. There's a guy who regularly posts here under the name FulciLives who has strongly recommended a particular brand of standalone recorder in the past. I don't remember which one he liked, but he's pretty fussy about his video and I'd say if he liked it, then you probably will too.

Hey, thanks for the help jman98. Yea, I went the PC capture card route, too, and wasn't happy with the results. I am interested, though, in doing some editing on my computer. So I was trying to capture with the standalone, and then copy the file to my computer to make some changes.
I've only really tried to copy stuff to DVD where the source was an old VHS tape, so I'm sure that's looking a lot worse than a laserdiscI guess I'm trying to get the worst source possible onto a DVD, then the newer types of sources should be fine.
Thanks for the idea about FulciLives....I'll do some searching around for him. -
Out of curiousity (for anyone that reads this) is there any way to contact a person on this site.....like send them a personal message or something? I thought there was a way but I can't find it. I was trying to contact FulciLives like was suggested.
Thanks! -
