I'm new to video capturing so please excuse me if if I don't use the appropriate terms. I've successfully captured a one hour DV footage with WinDV but the output file was too large--Over 1GB. Is it possible to compress this AVI file to a High Quality 700mb AVI? I've seen some HQ 700mb AVI's that run for an hour. How do I do that? Can you please recommend what program does that best? Any guide would be greatly appreciated.

Compress to DivX or Xvid using for example AutoGk, no guide required just load the avi and encode basicly...

You could also use Dr.DivX, DivX Converter, Virtualdub(not as easy but tons of guides).

Thank you for your response. Oh, I have a follow-up question... Since I have 3 separate AVI files that I'd like to join, do I have to join them first before doing compress? Do these softwares allow that (joining AVI files)?

Don't know about the others, but virtualdub will, with a couple of caveats - the videos must have the same resolution, and the auio must be the same (e.g. MP3 128 kbps 48kHz). VBR MP3 will stop them being joined in most cases. If all your source files come from DV they should have identical stats and join easily in vdub.

i use for compressing VidLogo, i've written about it already. it's simple to use and also can add logos to video. i think you can try it, look it on geovid.com

  6. Please don't support GeoVid software. Not only is it poor quality, but they spam the video community relentlessly, tying up valuable resources and preying on those desperate enough to post fake endorsements for the promise of small change.
