    Hi!
After a hibernation, all of video files are played without any picture i.e. the audio of video files are played while the video is not shown.
This problem is solved by a restart (or even a standby)
I've installed both xp 2001 and xp 2002 sp2. I've also installed the latest video drivers and Directx and checked the Dxdiag & video card configurations. but the error has still remained.
My graphic card is Nvidia Geforce 5200.
    Please note that:
1- This error happens only after I hibernate my computer.
2- All types of video files (dat, mpg, avi, wmv,...) are the same.
3- All types of players act the same. (Media player, winamp, jet Audio, xing ,...)
4- The players detect no video or codec error and recognize the video resolution.

    Can anyone help me?

It sounds like hibernation changes your overlay settings of your video card, but I have no idea why or how. When it does this, have you tried changing them before restarting? Incorrect overlay can give you a blank screen when video is played. The video is playing, you just can't see it. It's like it's being ported to a different monitor.

If this is no help, maybe go to Microsoft and search for hibernation errors or similar. You might also check with Nvidia and see if they have any ideas.

  3. Simplistic answer, Don't hibernate. If you won't be using it for a while do the comouter a favor and shut it off. I'd never leave mine hibernating and hope when that thunderstorm rolled through that a surge didn't get through my surge protector.

I'll let you in on a secret. Surge protectors wear out. They can absorb so much and then they're no better than a unprotected power strip. The good ones from APC for example will have a warning light to tell when they are worn out as well as warn you if they are plugged into a poorly wired outlet.

Another secret, electricians make Boo-Boos to. They get the Neutral and hot leads reversed or forget the ground or as one person was telling me yesterday. Half of his outlets have the ground on top and the other half have them on the bottom. Bad sign. Who know what else is wrong.

FWIW reversed neutral and hot leads removes the protection from polarized devices. I'd go to my local electrical supply house/Loews/Home Depot and get a tester before moving in anywhere and testing all the outlets. We had a customer at work who kept blowing out power supplies. I suggested the tester, he came back later and told ne he'd had the electrician in to rewire that outlet and had found others that were badly wired too. No more eating up power supplies.

I have always found hibernation to be flakey at best. Standby is OK for laptops, but hibernation . . . . It only takes a minute to boot mine up, so I'd rather know it was flushed and working.
