I have an avi file that was obviously converted straight from a PAL source to NTSC and seems to be "stretched" rather than properly converted. The audio on it sounds slowed down and low pitched. Its hard to say wether or not the video is the same way, but it looks like it plays okay. What I need to know is, how would I speed up the audio to its proper frequency and still have it sync with the video? I have tools like VirtualDub and AVIRecomp if its possible to use one of those.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

It is proper to convert PAL which is 25fps to NTSC at 23.976fps which is a "slow down" and makes the running time in NTSC longer thus requires the audio to be "stretched" so it is also longer.

The audio should be in sync from start to end (if it was done correctly) and the "pitch" change to the audio should really not be all that noticeable.

If anything the audio was changed for the PAL and was "restored" by going back to NTSC. If any audio is "more correct" it would be the PAL to NTSC audio you now have.

Unless someone really screwed up somehow the conversion.

But based on what you said it seems like it was done correctly.

If the audio really bothers you, you could try the freeware audio editor Audacity or similar to adjust the pitch, then add the altered audio back in. No guarantees that will work properly, so don't delete any original files till you are sure.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not 100% sure it was a PAL conversion to NTSC, but that is what it sounds like. You can REALLY tell an audio difference in it. When a character speaking is NOT supposed to sound like a slow baritone, then you know something is definatly off. I'll give Audacity a try and see if that'll fix it. I just hope both the video and audio resync when its done.
