    Hi all

New to this forum for this very reason and hoping you guys can either help me out here or tell me where to find the help I need!!!

Recently bought my first DVD drive and bought it with a software bundle that includes PowerDVD 6.0. The DVD drive is an NEC 3550A.

I have the drive installed as a master on my machine and the unit is working and recognised in the device manager.

My problem is that it just wont work with DVD's. I doesnt read or write to them but it will explore them.

More specifically, when I try to play a DVD, I have tried a few, they are all original copies so lets take Star Wars EPIII for example, it will play the opening warning screen and then when the DVD is meant to cut to the title menu, it just stops and closes playing.

Other DVD's it will momenterally pop up a window to look like its about to play and then close off.

I have also tried the drive using Nero 7.0 with the same results....am I assume that the drive is faulty or do you have any suggestions.

It runs from a driver which is part of the Win XP package and I have upgraeded its firmware from 1.5 to 1.6 via the NEC site.

    Help please!!!

    Mike

Is PowerDVD the only app you have tried to use to play back the movies? Could just be an issue with PowerDVD.

Have you tried burning any dvd's with the drive using Nero?

OK well things are getting strange now!!!

When the drive is empty it is shown in My Computer, when I insert a DVD to write to, it shows as a CD drive in My Computer and tells me there is no suitable DVD media in the drive.

So in answer to using Nero to burn a DVD, it aint happening!!!

The drive description changing is normal. It appears your drive is bad. The drive appears to be having trouble identifying the media.
