Hey guys I have a problem I have a movie ISO and I want to burn it on a dvd to play it on my dvd player in the living room. So far I have tried to do it about 15 times and have waisted about 15 dvds. I have follewed a lot of steps that I have found on burning ISOs, but still I have a problem. My DVD player does not read the burned dvd for some reason. When I tried to burn it with Nero, it fails burning in the end and it says something like "Could not put the finish" or something like that. I really need some help here guys I'm goin nuts over this, I can't burn a movie no matter what. PLZ Help.

  3. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your writer: www.rpc1.org
...and make sure the compilation is <4,460MB.

Click on "Download Firmware" and look for you manufacturer/burner type, then find your model number? Took me about a minute.

    This isn't your model?:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1898

You could also check Pioneer's website for firmware updates - I know Plextor has all the updates for my DVD burner.

Also, follwo the other suggestions: check the size of what you are burning as MOVIEGEEK suggested, and try another burning app, like ImgBurn - I've never had any issues using it.

    Good luck,
    Jim

    Platinum911911,

It sounds like your firmware is up to date, so that's not the problem.

The surest way to see what's going wrong is if you'll post a burn log. Since you mentioned Nero, edit the log to remove your serial number before posting it.

Well, I know nothing about Nero, but from what I can see, it burned successfully.

    Take a look at:
    >4:27:48 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 290
    >Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
    >Last address to be written: 1388239 (308:29.64, 2711MB)

From what I gather, the last address to be written shows you how long the file is to be burned.

    Then look at:
    >4:37:03 PM #129 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 3273
    >EndDAO: Last written address was 1388239

Looks like it write the whole file to the disc.

    And, finally:
    >4:37:34 PM #132 Phase 37 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1730
    >Burn process completed successfully at 4x (5,540 KB/s)

You can look at the disc to see if it did in fact burn - since your file is smaller than the total capacity of the disc you should see a distinct difference in the burned and un-burned areas.

Have you tried playing this DVD?

Again, it might be worthwhile to download ImgBurn and try it. See if it produces different results.

Yeah i can see that it actually burned, but the DVD will not play on the dvd player but it will play on the PC for some reason. I have ImgBurn and have tried using it, but I don't know all the actual steps to using it.

Well, if the DVD will play on the computer, then it burned fine. Problem may lie with the DVD player. Will it play the DVD media you're using? I can't tell for sure, but it looks like you are using DVD-RW discs? Will your DVD player play DVD-RW discs? The owners manual should say, one way or another.

I guess the only other thing to try is a different brand of media - it would seem that the player doesn't like whatever media you are currently using.

You burned succesfully, and it plays fine in the PC. Sounds like you just need to find media your player likes.

Have a look at info about your player in the "DVD Players" section to the left <<<<<. Read the comments, and see if anyone else has reported issues with your media (shrug). That's about all I have at this point.

This was asked early (by Baldrick) in the thread but I never saw an answer, unless I missed it - is the ISO file a proper DVD format? Look at one of your burned DVDs and see if you have a VIDEO_TS folder with vob,ifo and bup files and an AUDIO_TS folder that is empty. That is what you will get burned onto the DVD if the ISO is holding the proper files to make a DVD. If you do it must be that your DVD player doesn't like your media at all.

Do you guys know what VR MODE means? My DVD player Manual says that it will not play DVD-RWs in VR Mode. Could that be a problem?

Was the original recorded on a standalone DVD recorder using VR mode? If so, that could be the problem. You may have to re-author the disc, TDA will import VR mode discs.

I meant the original files that are contained in the ISO, were they created on a standalone DVD recorder?

    Platinum911911,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Starting with the easiest possible cause first, according to the Sony eSupport Knowledge Base, your dvd player can't play PAL, so if the dvd you're trying to use is PAL, then you've found the cause of the problem, and you don't have to read any further.

Taking a look at your burn log, I see:
    Physical memory : 1023MB (1047908kB)
    Free physical memory: 453MB (464028kB)
    Memory in use : 55 %
It looks like your computer is doing a whole lot of something that's not burning. It might a good idea to ease off on doing other things on the computer for the few minutes it takes to do a burn.
    Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)
    Sense Code: 0x24
    Sense Qual: 0x00
Atapi error code 052400 could be caused by anything, but at the top of the list of possible causes is other programs running at the same time as the burn.

You should try shutting down everything but the burning program and try a test burn. Since you're using a RW, all it will cost you is a little time to check it out.

You can get the latest official firmware version for the DVR-108 (1.20B) by clicking here. Your burn log shows you currently are using version 1.10. It looks like the firmware updates since 1.10 have been to add 8x burning for selected media, so it may not help with your current problem (the burn log shows you're burning at 4x).

Just to make sure, has your dvd player ever played a dvd-r(w) that you've burned?
