Hi

I posted here yesterday for the first time. This was my initial post:

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I'm having a problem with which type of DVD to buy to record. I have a Sharp DV-SR45UC and I've been using Sony DVD-RW with no problems but last week I bought Sony DVD-R and they don't work with my recorder. My manual states that the recorder won't work with DVD-R General Ver 2.0/8x and the Sony DVD-R is Ver 2.1/16x. I thought because I was using Sony DVD-RW that the DVD-R version would work without a problem.

Can anyone help or direct me to someplace that can help?

Thanks in advance if anyone answers this message.

This was the response I recv'd.

Take a look to the left under 'DVD Recorders' and you should find a similar model. Check the comments there and you should get an idea which discs some members use.

It sounds like that model will only work with 4X media. It's getting a little hard to find, but if you can't locate it locally, there is www.supermediastore.com, www.meritline.com, and www.rima.com, to mention a few that should carry them online.

lordsmurf's site listed above has a lot of good information on DVD media that may help also.

BTW, you should start a new thread when you question is not directly related to the original post.

And welcome to our forums.

Moving this thread to the Media forum.

This was very helpful and I appreciate the welcome and the guidance about posting as well as being directed to the right location etc.

Today I called Sharp hoping the would tell me what I was told here (and what I found in DVD Recorder section). Instead I was told that my recorder could possibly work with 16x discs and that speed shouldn't be an issue when buying the discs. It's all a matter of trial and error. Is this true? The person I spoke to mentioned Maxell, Verbatim and Fuji as brands I should try, but said that the speed on the disc shouldn't be an issue.

I guess my question is, if anyone has this DVD recorder, what DVD-R do you use? And, should I consider the speed on the disc when buying it, or is it not important?

Thanks in advance,

Sara
