  1. For all yo' Pop-Up Haters, I think you really are going to enjoy this one:

I know that they are ALL a curse, but do you hold a special grudge against a particular one?

I hate the "your computer is at risk!" ones. Obviously I know its not true but my grandfather kept clicking them and believing them. Its especially bad when it scans your computer for basic information then displays it as proof of your computer's need for more security.

Where's the "Pop Ups? What are Pop Ups?" option? I can't remember the last time I even saw a pop up ad.

    I hate them all basically.

To pick the worse would probably be the Online Casinos (I dont gamble at all).

But since im using Firefox, Adwatch (part of Ad-aware) and Adsgone 2006 etc, I dont really remember the last time I had a pop up.

I was thinking that also as i read the list before i saw your post!!

My antivirus/firewall software even blocks banners/ads embedded in web pages

But i do remember the "Your computer is at risk! (download this or that)" and they always made me laugh, but the crap i hated most was seeing the "window's messenger" system where it would always pop up little messages with crap like that even if you did not have a browser open
I've had a few friends that would freak out about those thinking they were gettin hacked and all kinds of shite

I too haven't seen a pop-up in a while, but my choice would definitely be the "your computer is at risk" ones. Those piss me off, not so much becasue I'm at risk of falling for it, but because the people/companies that produce them make a living off tricking gullable people into downloading their software, which doesn't actually fix anything, but rather makes everything worse. Shouldn't that be illegal?

I certainly think so. Its deceptive as hell. I remember one company was successfully sued because they had pop ups where the close button (the big X) was actually a link to their site instead. The real close button was very small and hidden. You still see ads like that from other companies. But I think tricking people into believing their computer is damaged or at risk is even more deceptive.

You can always disable the annoying messenger pop up under messenger settings (Tools --> Options --> General and uncheck the "Show Windows Live Today after signing into Messenger" box).

Opera is pretty good about blocking pop-ups, so I don't come across them very often.

Oh i know, i'm talking back a long time ago and about friends before i would go shut it off for them, then have them get the same software i use, but the software i use blocks even those if it is on. And i have seen it turn itself back on somehow... damn M$
It's still annoying when you do a fresh instal of windows while on a network and the first time it starts up the first thing you see is a damn pop up from their software

If the messenger you are referring to is the pop-up where you can only close it it's not part of "Windows messenger". It's service that was made for sending messages in a networked environment... anyhow you can disable it by going to start>control panel>administrative tools>services Find messenger in the list and double click it, click the stop button and from the drop down box select disabled and apply it..... permanently gone.

I hate the few of them that get through. I don't see many popups these days.

Anyone using the latest version of Ad-awre (version 6). It comes with Ad-watch 3.0 which actually warns you that it has blocked a pop up whenever one occurs by actually popping up itself (ironic) so I have to minimise it everytime it warns me.

Kind of defeats the object of blocking pop ups as it pops up itself.

I don't remember seeing a pop-up ad in a few years now. The blinking ones and vibrating ones (animated GIFs) pissed me off the most.

The blinking animated ones tick me off the most. Static ads aren't that bothersome unless they take up too much of the screen. Then I'll just surf to another site unless there's something I really want at that site.

I hate all pop-ups, of course, but I especially don't like ones that contain audio. "CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE JUST WON..."

I think the worst kind of pop-ups are the ones that now appear within the page you are viewing, and not in a seperate window per se.

Lately I have gotten pop-ups that open in a new window... AND make the size of the window just pixels away from maximum window size. This really anoys me because of how I 'power' surf... [right click... 'open in a new window'].... Now 'windowed' browsing don't work.

To 'fix' this I have to resize the window THEN close the bastard out.........
