    Hello

About a year ago I installed a K-Lite codec pack which included Media Player Classic. I set MPC as the default player and haven't had any problemuntil a about a week ago. Now whever I try to play an mpg file I get the standard Microsoft error message and exlorer shuts down. I can't play mpg's with Windows media player either. I get a message "Windows cannot open this file because it doesn't know what programme created it.

I uninstalled K-Lite and downloaded a new version today. But when I try to reinstall, first it aske dme to uninstall an "Xvid codec" on the system because of conflict. I did that. Then when installation was almost finished I got this error message:

ffdshow.ax. Unable to register the DLL/OCX. Create Process failed Code 2. The system cannot find the file specified. [recommend abort installation, which I did].

Now Windows media player will play most of my mpg's but there is no audio. I've obviously done something wrong here. Can anyone advise how I get MPC installed and working again properly.

    Thanks

The recommended practice is to stay AS FAR AWAY from codec packs as possible, as you can never tell if they'll conflict with each other.

Just download and install FFDShow by itself. And get rid of that codec pack ****.

You may need the services of Codec Sniper to clean up after you uninstall the codec pack.
