I've just got a dvd burner and i'm ready to burn stuff.
I've read several guides about encoding, not using nero but tmpenc for that etc but there's one thing i'm not quite sure about.
When to use VCD and SVCD.
I know SVCD has a better resolution and takes up more space then VCD but i'm wondering if there's a way to see if it has actual use to use SVCD.
Is there some guide that says when the video quality is below a certain rating that using SVCD over VCD is just a waste of space?
I've read this https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/94288.php among others and it doesn't explain that.
For example I've got a few movies which i examine in AVIcodec.
    Robin Williams Live Broadway.mpg

    Bestand : 592 Mb (583 Mb), duur 1:39:04, type MPG, 1 audio spoor(sporen), kwaliteit 49 %
    Video : 425 Mb, 600 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 320*240 (4:3), MPG1 = MPEG 1 (VCD), Ondersteund
    Audio : 158 Mb, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 kan., 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Ondersteund

This file is mpeg-1 so i'm assuming it should be encoded to VCD as quality with SVCD won't improve.

    Rowan.Atkinson.Live.VHSRip-SpiderONFire.avi
    Bestand : 404 Mb (404 Mb), duur 1:04:58, type AVI, 1 audio spoor(sporen), kwaliteit 60 %
    Video : 315 Mb, 678 Kbps, 24.994 fps, res. 640*480 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Ondersteund
    Audio : 89 Mb, 191 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 kan., 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Ondersteund

This file has higher resolution and is divx encoded so i'm thinking SVCD would be better here.
However it's a vhs rip and i read that's equal to vcd quality.

Richard Pryor Here And Now 1983 DVDRip kvcd Jamgood(TUS Release)\Richard Pryor.avi

    Bestand : 699 Mb (699 Mb), duur 1:21:14, type AVI, 1 audio spoor(sporen), kwaliteit 47 %
    Video : 624 Mb, 1075 Kbps, 23.976 fps, res. 544*368 (4:3), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Ondersteund
    Audio : 74 Mb, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 kan., 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Ondersteund

Here's the last one, it's a dvdrip and has some higher resolution so i'm pretty sure to use SVCD here.

There's more movies i'm having doubts about however these 3 have the most differences.
If there's any guide or topic that i've missed which discusses that please let me know.

    Thanks.

though laws differ in various countries - on this forum, we frown on downloaded movies .... i.e. warez ///

    please review the rules ....
