Hi there!! Got a question about menu creation in DVD-Lab Pro.

I would like to do a menu where the background would be a black and white picture of a bunch of people (i do have the original picture but in color).
I want each person on the picture to represent a menu button. When a button would be highlited, I would like to have that person only highlited in color, based on the original colors of the picture...

My background and buttons in DVD-Lab pro are already setup, but when I select a button, there's always the basic highlight overlay color (like purple) that comes in, and if I put full transparency for the overlay highlight, then I don't see the button at all...

Can somebody help me with this please?

Keep up the good work guys!

    Thanks

you are going to have to use invisible buttons with switched menus. Take a look at the tutorials.

You can't do it with just one menu.

Switched menus is the only way. Overlays are restricted to 4 colours.

At the Mediachance site there is a tutorial for switched menus in DLP. Basicially, you have to create a menu page for each button state (black and white, then each person in turn in colour), auto activate on invisible buttons to move to the next state. You will get a slight pause between states, and you cannot have continuous background music as you switch.

All of these are limitations of the DVD specification, not the authoring software.

On a related topic. DVD Lab PRO 2.0 allows for multiple menu cells. I have noticed that the "Switched Menu" approach is more responsive using menu cells rather than separate menus.

I just had a play with multiple menu cells, and I like. Very quick to set up a switched menu, very responsive in action. There is a caveat in the help files that this may not work as expected on all players - something to be aware of. The original switched menu method should work in all players however.
