Will encoding into MPEG1 work on SVCD/MiniDVD? The reason being.. I don't much like MPEG2 (and no I don't have any reason for it) but I want some of the advantages of SVCD's over VCD (chapter, etc etc, whatever there happens to be).
Does it work (this being on standalone decks, of course. I know it'd work in a computer).
Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're asking. VCD (MPEG) and SVCD (MPEG2) and miniDVD (MPEG2) are different formats. You're standalone most likely plays VCDs (check the DVD players list to be certain).
At the same resolution and bitrate MPEG1 looks the same as MPEG2. The reason MPEG2 is considered superior is because it supports more features: interlaced source, multiple audio tracks, selectable subtitles, etc.
Neither VCD or SVCD support chapters, however, but support entry points which work just like chapters (see VCDImager and it's GUIs: TSCV or VCDEasy). miniDVD is DVD format on a CDR or it supports everything that a DVD supports (most standalones can't play thou).
