I have transfered an episode of Stargate Atlantis from my tivo to my computer. I have then freed the file from it's tivoness and made it a regular mpeg2. I have just bought a copy of Sony Vegas Movie Studo Platinum + DVD. So I wanted to put My SGA.mpg into Vegas and remove the comercials and render to a different format WMV. I did it and the audio gradually goes out of sync with the video in my rendered file. Near the end it is close to 10 seconds off (audio is way behind the video). So, then I tried to remove the comercials and just render it back to mpg2....same problem but it didn't take near as long to render. Just to note, the audio is perfectly in sync when viewing on the timeline, it is after I render my new file that the problem occurs. I read the forums and decided to download the free trial of VideoRedo and see if that could help. I ran the stream fix on my mpg (supposed to fix sync issues) and then loaded that mpg into Vegas Movie Studio. Tried to render to mpg2....same problem. I thought perhaps it was the editing of the comercials in Vegas that was causing the issue, so I removed the comercials in Video Redo and then loaded that file into vegas and tried to render back to mpg2....same problem. I also tried editing in VideoRedo and using the stream fix on that file, then rendering it in Vegas Movie Studio, same problem. I have continued to play with it and I have found that I can render small clips of any part of the original show and they are fine. It is only when I render large clips or the whole file that the audio goes gradualy out of sync. Could it be that my computer just isn't powerful enough? I have a p4 2.2 mhz with 1gb of ram. I would have thought that would be enough. Anyone have any suggestions? I really would like to use Vegas to do this and not some other program. It is in my nature to figure out what the problem is and not just a way to get around it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

This is not a solution, but a simple statement of fact - mpeg is not designed as an edit format. The way it compresses the information makes it inherently unsuitable for editing. It is designed for end user playback.
If you must edit mpeg2 compressed video, use a dedicated mpeg2 editor, such as videoredo or womble. They are less featured than something like Vegas, but they are built specifically to edit this type of video. If you want to use Vegas, convert the video to DV first, then edit.Read my blog here.
