Hi,
I have this strange problem, I use mkvextract to extract a avc stream, then i used avc2avi to convert the avc to a h264 avi.. now comes the problem, both original and my converted file are 23.98 fps.. but somehow my converted file is more than a minute longer??
this cause a problem when I remerge the audio because its all out of sync
any idea how to fix this?
thanks

The original is probably VFR (Variable Frame Rate). Since avi doesn't support VFR, the video becomes CFR and therefor the length changes. It would become longer since the sections that were 29.97/30fps are now 23.98fps.
How to fix? Leave it as is. What use is an AVC avi anyway? -
Why? Nothing really that can play AVC in an avi that can't play it in an mkv. Only possible advantage is to avoid installing an mkv splitter, but then you already have to install an AVC decoder so it isn't much of an issue.

I am converting it for a Pocket PC, i need to convert it into avi and then Hardcode the subtitles in

Well the "and then" part kills that. If you have to hard encode subs, then you don't need to remux to an avi, since you are only then going to re-encode that you are just creating an additional unnecessary step. You would only need to remux if that was the final destination.
