    Hi everybody:

After a research I see that there are many ways to convert audio on a AVI from AC3 to Mp3 or WAV.My question is what's the easiest way for a dummy like me ??And perhaps the faster.!!

The easiest, once you have VirtualDub setup to read AC3 audio, and to encode to MP3 audio, is to load the AVI in VirtualDub, set video to direct stream, set audio to full processing (and select and configure MP3) and just save AVI.

By reading guides for VirtualDub. Basically load the AC3 AVI. If VirtualDub doesn't protest - You're fine on that respect. If not, look here:
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AC3_ACM_Decompressor
For VDub MP3 encoding, you need this:
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Lame_MP3

    Well, I found some problems:

1- I think my VD has the ac3 codecs as it's not "protesting"

    2- Downloaded Lame_mp3 but after extracting all files I dont see any LameACM.inf (vers. 3.98 6 !!

3-On the other hand I can't find anything to enable that codec on my VirtualDub !!

    /Mats
Yes I did it and its installed (listed on GSpot codec)

Now when I follow all the steps om VD:

    Video >direct stream copy
    audio> full processing mode
open file > save file = VD ERROR: no audio decompress could be found to decompress the source audio formatsource format: tag 2000)

What am i doing wrong now ???

Sorry to bother you with all these problems.

    WOW.... mats

    You saved my day.

    It works now.
    many thanks.

    Just one more thing.
I noticed that there are lots of codecs (audio and video) instaled on my machine.

This may sound stupid but there will be no imcompatibilities with all that stuff ??

And if the answer is perhaps , how can we find out what are the incompatibilities ??

What are the most common codec that one needs to have installed ??

tks for your help once again.

    hilario.

Some codecs are required by windows, so if you don't have problems (crashes, errors, etc.) I would leave them alone. If you installed any codec packs you could try uninstalling them, but that may also cause trouble (some uinstallers don't do a good job). Rule of thumb, if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.

Just remember, codec packs are more trouble than they are worth, you are far better off installing indiviual codecs only on an as needed basis. Such a practice can save one from much grief.

Hi fellas, great great forum, even for the 'ignorantus maximus' species like myself!...

Now, I grabbed VirtualDub and have been converting my AVI's sound to MP3 -since I cannot reproduce them with sound when in AC3 through my iZak.
I'll tell you though, it is either way too much work to do 50-60 AVIs one by one, or I am lazy -a little bit of both maybe?

Now, anyone can take me by the hand to tell me how to run these 50-60 (an growing AVI's) in a batch routine (only change required here is AC3 >>> MP3, I leave video on 'Direct Stream Copy'). I have gotten my paws on DubMan and on VDBatch, but somewhere between trying to create .vcf, .jobs and trying to apply them to a batch of AVIs I have messed my few brain cells up...

    So... all ears!

    Try this: Use AVI_GAIN_REGULAR.BAT

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic314909.html

If you have trouble, try the beta

  13. Grrr. I've tried installing the AC3 ACM Decompresser but VD keeps throwing up the same error as described earlier in the thread......

    Video >direct stream copy
    audio> full processing mode
open file > save file = VD ERROR: no audio decompress could be found to decompress the source audio formatsource format: tag 2000)
ow long should the decompresser take to install? Because when i install it, the install screen flashed up for only a split second, not long enough for me to be able to tell if it's actually installed or not. I'm running W& 64-bit, would that be causing me the grief here?

Get WinFF, make an AVI preset that does:

-f avi -vcodec copy -acodec libmp3lame -ab 128k

Then drag and drop all the avi files, select the preset, and hit encode.

Did you install the AC3 ACM Codec? It is required to decompress tag 2000 (AC3).

try converting the audio to aac. maybe use avidemux. import source video. set video to copy. set audio to aac. set format to mkv. lg's tend to play almost anything in an mkv container.

  21. OK so I tried and converted to mkv didnt even detect file. Tried .avi didnt load.
So after checking the divx page for my dvd player(LG dv556) and my LG tv(42PJ350R-MA)
my conclusion is that the resolution of my video is too big for my devices to play

I still learned a few things. thanks for the help: Baldrick & aedipuss
