  1. Is there any way to re-encode .TS files so they can fit on a DVD9. So far all the tools I tried don't have that option and all the MPEG encoders don't do MPEG2HD.

    VSO ConvertXToDVD

Its not free, but can convert multiple video formats to DVD, including HDTV as its what I now use after trying the other HDTV converters mentioned here

It appears to be one of the few converters that do a better job than most in keeping teh audio synch when trying to convert from divx/xvid back to DVD, but don't expect DVD quality from something thats already been compressed pretty heavily to start with

Dead simple to use, just select the first .TS file if there are multiple ones and it will do the rest for you, you can choose to convert to DVD-5 or DVD-9 (single or dual layer)

You do have some choice over final quality as well, obviously the better quality will take longer. I just leave it to run overnight. No need to work out what settings you need, it picks them out for you from the source file(s)

It can even burn the DVD for you after conversion or just create the ready to burn files so you can burn using your own burning software if you wish, or if you have multiple small clips of videos create a basic menu as well

    TMPGEnc Plus supports HD resolutions.

Yes, that's it. You can also go to very high bitrates. I'm not sure what the max is but, if I recall correctly, it's over 80,000 kbps.

I'm now reencoding a 1080i ts sample with tmpgenc plus. I used hdtv2mpeg2 to get a mpg file that I can open in latest tmpgenc plus.

    It works fine, but slooooooooooooooooooow...

  8. Alright thanks guys, I'll give it a try.

And, By the way, does it matter which High Profile I use if I will want to play this on a HD-DVD player at some point (whenever I buy one). There's 3, and I'm not sure which is best to use:

    1. Main Profile & High Level (MP@HL)
    2. High Profile & High-1440 Level
    3. High Profile & High Level (HP@HL)
