  1. I am trying to backup a movie using DVD Shrink and I noticed that the usual function is not highlighted - "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality"

Why is that I can't use this?

Also gave me an error message of "memory maxed out" but I have enough room on my hard drive.

  2. Also, it somehow remembers the dvd I just put in. Even if I close out of DVD Shrink and re enter, it will remember the %, menu options, extras, unreferenced materials. etc How so?

This may solve both of your problems: On your boot drive: Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>DVD Shrink, then delete the files there. That will clear the DVD Shrink analysis cache. You will lose all analysis data for your past 'Shrink' movies, but it's hard to tell one file from the other. It won't cause any other problems, though.

Note: In 'Tools>Folder Options>View.Hidden files and folders', you will have to check 'Show hidden files and folders' to enable you to see 'Application Data'.

The 'memory maxed out' I don't know. Maybe a reboot of the computer will fix that.

  4. Redwudz,

Why cant I click the box for "perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality"? So what happened was that I tried to copy a movie, but then it stopped and gave me the memory maxed out error message. When I try to re analyze it, it doesnt let me click on the deep analysis box. Is it because it already remembers it from the first time around?

How much memory do you have? 512MB would be fine, anything less may cause problems, especially if you are running other apps or have things running in the background. Also make sure you have plenty of space on the hard drive for the compressed DVD image, DVD Shrink and the windows swap file (10% or more free space is ideal, plus the ~4.5GB free for the resultant DVD image).

Try a reboot of course. If that all fails and you have more than 10%+4.5GB of your hard drive space free, make sure you don't have anything weird or malicious starting on boot (turn off unneeded startups, scan for spyware etc.)

You may also want to use DVD Shrink's built-in decryption if the image was created with DVD Shrink or other app, or try the opposite (rip with DVD Shrink if you are using DVD Shrink's built-in ripping.) I have had some physically bad DVDs cause DVD Shrink to freeze or give weird errors too.

Yes, if it already did a deep analysis, then it won't do it again unless you delete the analysis files. The 'memory out' message could be related to that. I don't know. Clean out the Shrink analysis files and see. They may be in a slightly different location on some computers, but you could do a search for hidden files and find them.

I have seen both of these problems with ArCoSS protected discs that have not bee correctly ripped. I would suggest at the very least trying again with the latest DVD Fab Decrypter, or even better, Ripit4me. I suspect that your rip is bad and shrink just doesn't know what to do with it.

  8. redwudz,

Yes, I already did a deep analysis befoe it gave me the error message. So when I re-ran it, it wouldnt let me do it again. I guess it "remembers" it from the first time.

    BruceSD,

I have 1 gig memory and about 100 gig hard drive left, so memory is not the problem.
