  1. I have a San disk Memory Stick PRO in my sony camera. Suddenly the camera showed "Access". The camera cannot read the card. Neither can the PC. The stick is not seen in the PC like a hard disk as it should be seen when I put it in the card reader.
I have downloaded lots of different recovery programs but none can se the Memory Stick.
By the way the camera works fine with another MS.
Ihave some pictures on the card. Are they lost if I donot want to pay EUR75 to recover them as I was offered when I downloaded a trial program that did not work.

You may have tried this one: http://www.datadoctor.in/data-recovery-software/more-pen-drive-data-recovery-software.html I believe it will work for about a month before it has to be purchased.

Another option is specifically for that memory stick from Sandisk. http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1186)-RescuePro.aspx about $34US if you have are a registered Sandisk owner. Or $40 without.

There are few freeware programs that will do much with memory cards. The odds are the card is toasted, but give it a try.

I am not sure if this will help you, but I ran into a similar problem with a lexar memory stick Pro DUO and my sister's sony DSC-H2.
    Error C:13:03 "Reinsert Memory Stick"
Although the card was still readable in a card reader.

While researching I noticed there was a firmware update for the DSC-H2 (for cameras manufactured during a certain time period) that dealt with an incompatibility of sandisk media.

Check sony's website, you might find a firmware update (for your camera) that will fix your issue. Be very careful to read any instructions and details, as flashing with an incorrect firmware can render your camera useless.

As for my sister's camera, she is in the process of getting an RMA from lexar. (their support/service has been great thus far, they even offered data recovery since the card is in warranty - not 100% sure if that would be free though).

However, I am more inclined to agree with the previous poster, that your card is probably fried.

    [edit: for clarification]

  4. Sounds like it needs to be formatted, the only drawback is you lose all data:
    www.sonydigital-link.com/memstick/downloads/downloads_ms.asp?l=en&f=MSFRM
As with SD cards there's also a write protection switch(from the Sony website):
"Confirm that the write-protection switch of the Memory Stick is set to the "Write enable" position."

  5. Many thanks for all advice. I have downloaded lots of programs and it seems that the problem is that I cannot see the Stick in any program. I can see it for some second in My Computer when I put the Stick in the card reader but then it shows some red "?" and it disappears again. There was once I succeeded in right clicking and clicked "properties" but it only showed file system "RAW". but it was not possible to format. I have had a year ago a Hard Disk that turned RAW. This I repaired with a program called "ZAR" but not even this program can read this Stick.
So I suppose the MS is toasted or fried as you call it.

I had a San disk Memory Stick DUO 256 to use in my cell phone. One day I left it in my laptop and it died because of overheating.

In my pc I had the same symptoms that you are describing.

It may be that it is dead already. Before discarding it try testing it in a different pc.
