This doesn't really fit into any section, but this is probably the closest.

Quick question...is there such thing as a "consumer" DVD press, one that costs under $10k or so for example? I work for a company with about 250 employees, and every week or so I make burned dvds with current projects, etc to hand out to every employee, the problem is I always get complaints that some people can't get them to play and it puts them behind. My boss doesn't want to outsource to a dvd replication business, as the contents are confidential. Our budget isn't really low, but when talking about industrial presses, $10k is probably nothing...so is there any short run type dvd presses in existance? We may expand to doing our product dvds in house, so if there is something, it will be a good investment for us.

    No such thing.

My educated guess is that you'd need:

    1. Clean rooms
    2. LaserBeamRecorder-which exposes photosensitive litho material on glass master
    3. Pos-Neg-Pos (w/ Nickle-plating) process to get from G.M. to Stamper Master
    4. Molding/Stamping/Cutting/Buffing/Adhesive/Coating Assembly line

Cost? ~$100,000US--$5,000,000US (just a guess), not counting employees/machines to operate and maintain.

It's either burn, or send to a factory (~>500 qty) for pressing.

There are business that deal with safeguarding your contents. Assuming it's not anything illegal.

Cornucopia - Well that's no good then, thanks for letting me know though.

lordsmurf - It's a advertising business, nothing illegal, but the dvds contain video information on current projects, messages, etc and my boss does not want to risk the leak. We are aware of companies that guarentee privacy and safeguarding, however their other requirements contradict that the information won't be viewed.

Thanks for the info though, I guess I can end my search.

The turn-around time for pressed DVDs is typically at least a couple of weeks. The simplest solution would be to buy new DVD players for people who have problems. You could get them for $30.

lost1 : there is no reason for these companies to actually view your content, as they need only compliant format data to press. Reputable companies rely on their reputation as perhaps their greatest selling point, so it is in their interests not to betray your trust. In the case of leaking of sensitive information, 9 times out of 10, the leak will be in your company, not theirs.
