  1. Hey all,
I'm having a problem with my USBs connection. Although I suppose to have UBS2, It doesn't seem to work.

OS: Winxp with Service Pack 1

I have the following Motherboard: Asus P4S533-VM which supports USB2. I've checked the Bios and I've set the USB2 option to Enable.

The USB drivers are installed and when I try to reinstall them, I get the message that I've already got the latest drivers.

I've checked My Computer -->Properties --> Hardware --> Device Manager -->Universal Serial Bus Controllers and I have a few USB Root Hubs and SIS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (and from what I know, that means I have USB2 ready)

When I try to copy files to my MP3 player which supports USB2, or to my Digital Cam, the fastest rate is about 2000 KBPS which is USB1 and not USB2.

Any ideas on what I can do in order to activate USB2 on my Computer?

P.S. if this isn't the right forum for that, i am sorry. I don't know any good Hardware Forums

    Thanks.
    Bye

  2. If you're talking K BYTES per second, then 2000 is more than you can get with USB1.1. You're devices are probably just slow. Note that Flash memory is pretty slow, especially writing to older devices. For example:

Look at the "Kingston standard" write speed of only 1700 KB/s.

Booooom, I am assuming you are using the rear USB ports, or have tried them. A few front USB ports seem not to work properly with USB 2.0. Also using a USB hub may sometimes cause problems. Other than that, if you have the 'Standard Enhanced' USB controller, you should have USB 2.0. The drivers are in the OS since XP SP1.

You might go to MS and see if this information is useful: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q310575

  6. Thanks people
The rate is indeed at Kilo Bytes per second and if 2000 is above usb 1.1 then I guess it's the flash card's fault the data transfer isn't as high as it usb2 allows.

I tried to reinstall all the USB drivers and checked my MP3 player on another computer with usb2 and pretty much got the same result. Oh well
