Will converting my VCD .MPG files to DVD format decrease the quality (because of the reconversion or re-encoding process)? They're categorized as "great quality" and am not sure if it's original source was avi or mpg. Since I already know how to convert, author and burn that's all I really wanna know. BTW, they'll be viewed on normal 4:3 televisions with dvd/vcd players, but more importantly I wanna get the best visual experience possible whether it's VCD or DVD format and if it's DVD format I use ConvertXtoDVd or TMPGenc Xpress 3.0.

Here are the specs of the VCD .MPG files:

    File : 222 MB (219 MB), duration: 0:22:18, type: MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 56 %
    Video : 183 MB, 1152 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 352*240 (4:3), MPG1 = MPEG 1 (VCD)
    Audio : 35 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0]

Thanks a million in advance for your help.

It will reduce their quality if you re-encode them. All you need to do is convert the audio from 44.1Khz to 48Khz and they should be DVD compliant. TMPGEnc DVD Author can do that automatically. Or you can convert the audio with other programs, then author.

Since this VCD video is already DVD (NTSC) compliant, there's no reencoding needed, and hence no quality loss (nor quality gain).
The audio has to be upsampeled to 48 kHz, but TMPGEnc DVD Author takes care of that automagically in the authoring process.
