I have tried to convert a VOB file. I ripped the DVD using MacTheKnife and noticed that there is a single VOB video file along with an .AC3 audio file. I select the audio file in the audio tab and select ".AC3" option and changed the bitrate to 24000.
ffmpegX successfully encodes the video but does not integrate the audio. What am I doing wrong?
Also, when I copy the .mp4 file to PSP (MAQXXXXX.mp4 format) to the ANV folder on the PSP memory stick, the PSP displays 'Unsupported Data' and does not display the video. This cannot be an issue with the PSP firmware, as I can use a Windows PC and successfully convert the video using PSPVideo9.
I would have to keep an extra PC around just for this purpose, and I believe the H.264 format to be vastly superior in quality to MPEG-4.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Never head of it

Que? Is it a sampling rate?
How can you tell that there is no audio?
I suggest you learn basics about audio/video compression before posting a question.

MacTheKnife is an extremely popular program used to rip DVD contents into a VOB file. It is even mentioned in the FAQ and instructions for ffmpegX.
24kbs is the maximum bitrate of audio that the PSP will accept. You would know this is you followed your own advice.
And I can tell that there is no audio because when I play the compressed .mp4 file in Quicktime, THERE IS NO AUDIO.

Quick Time doesn't play AC3. I don't know anything about PSP. When you compress video for Mac uses, you should set the audio bitrate to at least 128 kbps, and 24 kbps is not listed in the pull-down menu while it is possible to set the sampling rate to 24000 Hz on ffmpegX. That's why I thought you were talking about a sampling rate. Sorry about that.
Furthermore, I searched VersionTracker and MacUpdade for MacTheKnife before posting a reply to your question but got no return. Therefore, my observation that MacTheKnife is not a popular application is not wrong.

Thanks for the correction BellBoy.
I even tried using ffmpegX to mux the audio and video files together into a single file before compression, but still no luck. ffmpegX seems to not be including the audio file.

there is another peice of software that I use wich seems to fix that issue first I use MTR and do a full disc extraction . Then I use a program calleD YADEX to extract just the main feature or chapter I want. Problem is the program is in french I can't find the english version anywhere. I can figure out enough to use it for my purposes if you need any help let me know. Anyway I extract the single VOB with YADEX and drop it straight into FFMPEGX to convert hasn't failed yet.
