Last week, the remote on my 3 month old GoVideo SDV-650 went dead. I couldn't find an exact replacement remote, so I ordered one for the JVC HR-S9800U (which the Go model is a clone of - JVC assured me it would work, and the remotes look exactly the same except for color and branding). Got it today, and it's not working. I'm guessing that the sensor is broken. Any quick fixes or do I have to get it serviced?
Thanks!

Before getting it serviced I would consider buying a cheap universal remote. You can find them at discount stores for as little as $5. If it works, you would probably still want a full-featured remote, but if nothing else you'll know if it's indeed a bad sensor on the deck itself. That's pretty rare.

I have some universal remotes around the house so I could try it, but the service place does the estimate for free and I need to go there anyway to get the power switch on my TBC fixed.

Go says that since it wasn't from an authorized reseller (it was new but I scored it on eBay), that the warranty would be expired now.
