Hello, Im looking to get myself a new DVD Burner but I have been out of the loop lately as to what is the best drive and the fastest drive for ripping.
Im looking at these two possibilities but open to other suggestions:
Pioneer DVD - 110D $ 59.00
Pioneer DVD - 111B Black $ 49.00
Still scratching my head and wondering why the older model is more expensive then the newer model though?
prices quoted are OEM Candian dollars.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Does a couple of minutes here or there really matter that much?

NEC rips DVD-Rs fast, I don't know about retail discs. Everything my NEC 3500 does is faster than the Pioneer 111D, reading, ripping, DVD-R not retail, erasing.

I don't know on any of those, the 111D is the first Pioneer I've owned. Someone else will have to answer. I've seen people say the 111 is better than the 110, but I wouldn't know.

Yes the PIONEER 111D is riplocked if you crossflash it to the 111L drive which can only be undone by using MCSE. The 111D drive supposedly is better which can read DVD-RAM if you crossflash it to the tdb firmware 111L 8.26 and also you'll enable bitsetting to dvd-rom for dvd+r media.

Thanks for pointing out that deal MJA!!! With free shipping and the free flash memory it's hard to say no to!!!
I probably will pick up on it to replace the aging white NEC on my second computer (black case). Flash memory comes in handy sometimes.
The BenQ 1655 on this computer rips DVDs MUCH faster than my older NEC and does automatic DVD+R to DVD-R booktyping as well. But, don't have a newer NEC model to compare it to... yet... Thanks again MJA... -

No, if you add the FM its another $5 for shipping. -
Figures... There's ALWAYS a catch...
I've been reading alot about the newer NEC models not reading scratched disks well... might just stick with the old one that still works great...
I recommend the BenQ 1655 as a drive that rips DVDs noticeably faster than other drives I've used. Reads and writes very well too. Have heard about early failures of this drive... Seems like with ANY optical drive you either get a good one or you don't though...
