How do you upgrade dvd writer firmware on a mac?

I recently got an LG GSA-4167B and installed it in my MAC.
I'd like to upgrade the firmware, but it seems the only way is to put the drive
in a PC. Any suggestions?

None that I can find. Why do you need to upgrade it? Looks like you may be stuck with a PC upgrade unless one of our Mac users has an idea. But you will likely find better answers in our Mac forum for Mac specific questions. Moving you.

The firmware is rev 10.. Its now up to 13.
And ya I'm having some trouble writing...
but I guess having been moved to this forum I've reached the end of the discussion.

What I need is the raw firmware binary and a firmware loader for the mac for this drive.

IF a firmware is available you will still need a Mac Flasher. DVRFlash might work with it.

Apple support told my brother that the only way to get a firmware upgrade was to have an Apple supplied drive and then it would be upgraded if they decided it was necessary and included it in an OS update.

Ya but I put this drive in myself.. and it works but like I said it needs a firmware upgrade...
Apples come a long way... but look forward to seeing a lot more post like this one from users who want there 'intel' macs to be able to accept hardware from other vendors. Which means lots and lots of device driver development for MAC OS X. (And utilities!)
