i've been searching a long time for a good (and cheap) dvd recorder with some features i really need... like :
* full XviD support
* sub/idx/srt support
* video aspect resizing
2 players that kind of pointed out are : Sony RDR-GX220 & LG DR7500
(note that both dont have a hdd that i dont need, which lowers the price)
can anyone please comment the above mentioned support for those 2 players, and does anyone have an idea why is LG more expenssive then Sony in this case ?

Click the link on the left, "DVD Recorders", and enter the recorders of interest to you. A quick look under the LG shows it is supposedly Divx-compatible. I did not read any further. You can try searching the forums; if that fails, try the entire site, and, if that fails, a web search, to see if there is any more info on these products. However, some products are either just very new or nobody has said anything yet, so it may take awhile before any new info starts coming in.

One of the areas not covered by the lists is the availability and frequency of firmware updates for the recorders.
Some vendors make frequent updates (required even for units without problems) to support new media types and brands. Others never update.
A search of the vendors websites can often provide insight but the best indicator is often the experience of other owners of the brand.
