I'd like to do some simple animation with Vegas. For example, picture
a map of the US. I'd like to have a line start on the west coast and
move to the east continually growing in length, that is in the fine
frame the line extends all the way from coast to coast.

Similarly, I might want a cartoon automobile just moving from coast
to coast. What tools do I need to do this?

Moving the automobile is a simple matter of getting a still, masking it and keyframing the movement. You can either move the car across the map, or the map under the cap. Either way, the Pan and Crop tool is what you need.

Doing the line is best done by getting two versions of the map, one with the line and one without, then doing some form of masked reveal to show the line progressing.

One way is to buy the Heroglyph plug-in. One of the tutorials that comes with it does this exact thing - easiest way I've found yet to do it. www.heroglyph.de

or you can also follow this thread with an explanation how to do it with just vegas ( creating two maps ) http://www.dmnforums.com/cgi-bin/displaywwugpost.fcgi?forum=sonic-foundry_vegas&post=0...0607003429.htm

On one part of the thread, someone mentions (Tom Baldwin) a tutorial at <http://www.bb-video.net>, but that is a bad link.

Here's an idea that may solve my problem. Instead of doing the animation, I can do something like a speeded up sequence. I draw the line going across the map, and you see my hand doing it, but the rate is speeded up. This has appeal, since I'd like this to be fairly comedic. Part of the comedic effect can be erasing and backing up.

For that, I would like to probably know how one can say removed every other frame or every third frame in some automatic procedured?

Read up on Velocity Envelopes in the Vegas help files. They will do just what you need.

  8. At powerpoint, under slide show, pick your animation scheme, and construct your show.

To convert that to video, you can try either of these :

    1. Play the power point and use Camstudio to record it as video.

    2. Do a web search of "power point animation to avi", and try out those applications from the search result.

Powerpoint is a very poor substitute for a video tool. Throw in the fact you have to use screen capture tools to get output, and you have a recipe for poor quality junk.

See my response to one of your other posts for methods to do this in Vegas
