  1. After five days trying to get a darn VOB file into Sorenson Squeeze I finally cracked it.

    This worked for me.

I needed to rip my 1.5 GB short movie off a DVD and encode for the web with Sorenson. Sorenson won't take Divx or Xvid properly, and has no audio support for Muxed MPEG2 files. So the only thing it will take is an AVI, which rules out most of the programs suggested on here because they are mostly for compressions and XVID type Avi.

So what I needed was a DV avi that didn't involve any more compression. And that could import into Sorenson without hangups.

After downloading and trying at least 10 different programs, and trying some of the suggested methods in these forums which involved way too many steps that didn't work or froze, or crashed, all I needed was:

1)VOB2MPEG (Dvd-dycrypting the files into one VOB file would not import into Virtualdubmod - always got an error half way through and using other programs to directly take the VOB from the DVD didn't work. Resulted in hangups. so VOB2MPEG was the only program that worked for me to get the VOB off of the DVD where it became a MPEG2.

    2)PANASONIC DV CODEC

    3)VIRTUALDUBMOD

After that all I needed was the info this guy below had wrote for importing DV AVi into Windows Movie Maker. It turns out they are the exact instructions needed for importing into SORENSON SQUEEZE also. So once you have your files in MPEG2 format after using VOB2MPEG check out the illustrated guide at the link below:

Very important to follow his short steps to get it right.

I now have a beautifully preserved AVI file that looked just like the original MPEG2 that I was able to drag and drop into Sorenson. It only took 25 minutes to convert a 19 minute movie 1.5GB MPEG2 into DV AVI - A 3.8 GB file resulted.

I took that into Sorenson and looks like I'll go with the H264 as the MOVIE looks fantastic, better than using regular QUICKTIME with SORENSON 3 PRO CODEC. It's clearer and smaller, just like the APPLE.COM QUICKTIME TRAILERS. Final size soon as I'm done looks to be 60MB with the image at 320 by 240 for a now 17 minute movie - I shortened the credits at end to get file size smaller.

Glad this is finally over - I think. Now I have to learn how to encode it in a nice XVID format with Spanish Subs.

  2. Oh forgot to mention that DEMUXING the MPEG2 file won't work either. Sorenson will not take an MPEG 2 file with sound no matter what I tried. Demuxed or Muxed, converting the sound to another format it will take. Nothing works. it doesn't manage sound for MPEG2 files. The only files it works flawlessly with are DV AVI and .MOV

  3. Also some will argue here that I could use a program like SUPER or whatever to encode into H264 without the need for Sorenson. I tried that. Every program gave me an error message during the conversion. So no good for me. Only Sorenson worked once It got it in AVI DV format.
