Hi.
Im converting x264 etc to mpeg2 or wmv to play on my 360 via the media extender.
I can now convert ok, howver the sound seems to drop to stereo. I have tried using 'river' and 'mpeg encoder', they only in either wmv containers off the support of stereo, or a mpeg container with stereo.
I know that wmv can support ac3 as it have the samples from ms?
Do i need to spilt and convert seperatly?

ditch the crappy 360 and get a real HTPC!
or
mpeg2
convert to a mpeg2 (just video or with audio), demultiplex the ac3 from the video ( mkvextractgui for mkv, virtualdubmod for ogm, avi, yamb for mp4), use tmpgenc->file->mpeg tools->simple multiplexer and choose the mpeg as video source and the ac3 as audio source.
wmv
doesn't windows media encoder include some tools for multiplexing? so you can add the ac3 audio in the wmv container? -
