Are Xvid bitrates the same as Divx as i riped a few dvd to xivd using AVI.net with AdvBitRate195 clac
and a 81min movies with 973kbits sec bitrate comes out as 350 meg file so is xvid the same divx?

Divx and Xvid are both MPEG 4 Part 2 codecs. They deliver similar results.
All codecs deliver the same file size with the same bitrate. -
I've found xvid works a little better in my Philips DVP-642. Plus, it's open-source.
