Trying desparetely to backup a data cd. When trying to read with Nero it hangs up at about 13% with "unrecoverable read error". Any ideas that might bypass the read errors on a data cd ?

Ultraiso may work for disc image's where other's failed ... but then again ... if the file's or media have physical damage ... nothing will generate a 1:1 copy of the disc , so file's may be missing from image ... if this is a commercial disc , it may fail to operate correctly .
Good old dvd decrypter in iso read mode ... dvd only .
Both have option's to ignore read error's ...
alcohol is more for those game disc's .
To extract file's from iso image's ... zipgenious .
To convert image's to iso ... cdmage .
If it's just file's your after to recover , isobuster may do ok , but again , if the file or media is damaged in anyway ... their long gone ... permanetly .
Ps : Watch out for those idiot disc's made by toast (mac) ... there a nuciance on a pc . -
I just found a tool called "dvdisaster". It can read discs at the image level, bypassing the file system. You may want to try it.
