I would like to know what goes into making a video game. Is C++ or C# involved? I would like to know what you use for the programming aspect of it. Is 3dmax needed if you intend to make it 3d. If not, what program is needed? How long do you project any game production would take?

In essence, i want a 101 session here please

  2. An A-list game takes a team of about 20 people, working 60 hours a week, about 2 years to complete. That's about 125,000 man hours.

This is really not a gaming site and you would get more information on one of those. Here's one place to look: http://www.gamediscovery.com/development/

There are also on-line schools that have classes in this as a career. Depending on the depth of gameplay you want to create, it can take advanced graphics and animation skills, advanced programming skills and some fairly expensive software. And much more space and time than is available on our forums to go into the details.

Word on the street is the way to get yourself into this business is as a low end game tester. If you are any good, they will train you. To impress them you need to focus on game play first, technology second. They have enough MSCE computer guys already.

These people that rise from the ranks are far more successful than the game programming trade school graduates.

    My info may be dated.
