I'm making a slideshow DVD for about a dozen people and I was wondering about menu music. Most of the DVD players in my house had no trouble at all with the DVD I made, but one did- my cheap RjTech which I mainly use for watching .avis and .mpgs rather than DVDs. It had trouble accepting key presses in the menu. I figured this out to be the music playing on the menu. I burnt a DVD with no background music and it worked fine.

The question I have is how likely is it that one of the people I give this DVD to will have the same problem? I really like the music so I don't want to get rid of it unless I have to. Does anyone know if many players have this problem with menu music? Thanks.

Well you could make it a short 30 second opening video with the music and either a still photo or some small video with the music and set it as the starting video.

Most dvd authoring software allows you to set a starting video to play before your menu. That way you could include your music and some pictures or stills in the intro and then go to a standard menu without music.

You know, that is an excellent idea. I even have some ideas right now on just what to put. Thanks. Of course, I need to see if any of the free solutions (or Nerovision Express 2) support it...

    No but Ulead VideoStudio does.
BTW...what kind of audio did you use for the menu?

The problem is I am currently unemployed and can't afford any commercial software, though I suppose uncrippled time-limited demos could work as I don't anticipate making another DVD until next summer.

In any event, even if NVE2 doesn't do it, I could always add it as a regular video then add a call to it in the First-Play section using PGCEdit, right?

As for the music it was a 96-second MP3 when imported by NVE. I think I set it to 48000 Hz, VBR quality 2 in Reaper. I assume NVE would have converted it to proper format. I originally tried WAV, but NVE would fail to transcode it- I think Reaper compressed it. So far only one DVD player had problems with it so far, but I don't know what other players out there may as well which is why I asked.
