It looks like you're using Nero to convert as well. I'd use something else to encode and author. Nero is best used as just a burner. Check the tools section for encoders. I hear ConvertxtoDVD is a decent program.

When it fails, it never fails while it is encoding. But at the start of the burn.
Could the encoding still be the problem?

According to the log, it's returning an ATAPI error code of 030200. That error code usually signifies one of the following:

    1) The drive doesn't have DMA enabled
Your log shows DMA is enabled on the hard drives and the burner, so that's probably not the problem.

    2) Bad meda
I've never seen such a long, complicated log before. I'm getting a headache trying to find the media id, so instead I'll just ask...what kind of disks are you using? If they're not good, then you've found the problem.

    3) Bad Drive
This one speaks for itself. If the media is good, you could try a "Test Mode" burn with ImgBurn, and then post the log. If there is a problem with the drive, the "Test Mode" log should still have the same error. If the "Test Mode" completes without error, it's a good indicator the media is bad.

    didikai,

Well, I tried looking up TDK in the media database, but it didn't help much because they use all kinds of different media/manufacturers. Since you'll need ImgBurn to do a "Test Mode" burn anyways, if you don't already have the new version, why don't you head over to ImgBurn.com and pick up a copy. Once you have ImgBurn set up, put in one of your disks, and click "Mode" - "Discovery". In the window on the right will be a lot of stuff, including the "Disc ID". If you'll post what is says, we'll know what media we're really dealing with.

Well, at DigitalFAQ.com, TTH02 is listed as first class media, so you shouldn't be getting "lots of coasters" because of the media. There also doesn't seem to be any problem with that media used in your drive.

At this point, the best thing to do would be a "Test Mode" burn with ImgBurn. Although you have to put a blank disk in the drive, the disk won't actually be written to, so it won't be another coaster when you're done.

If the dvd you're trying to burn is an ISO, then just click "Mode" - "Write" and select the ISO. Make sure the "Test Mode" checkbox has a check in it. Put in a blank disk, and click the big "write" icon.

If the dvd you're trying to burn is in VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS format, follow this guide, but make sure you have a check in the "Test Mode" checkbox before you click the big "write" icon.

Whichever way you use, save the log from the "Test Mode" burn, and post it.

I've been thinking, and besides the 3 common causes for your problem that I listed above, I've helped a couple of people where the problem ended up being the software (Nero), and the burn(s) worked fine when using ImgBurn instead of Nero.

If the "Test Mode" burn fails, it means there is a problem with the drive, or its' connection, and the log should give us more details.

If the "Test Mode" burn works with no errors, the problem is either the disks, or the software. In that case, a real burn with ImgBurn would either work (which means the problem was Nero) or fail (which pretty much just leaves the media as the problem).

I'm beginning to think it's Nero.
I have problems with all formats DivX, Xvid, videos I have transferred from analogue via Pinnacle Studio.
How do I get these into a format Imgburn will recognise?
I use Nero to author as I can make a menu.

btw Thanks so much for your time and effort so far.

If so, you wouldn't be the first person to have a problem with it.

You can use whatever you wish to author a dvd. The new version of ImgBurn will work with ISOs, or VIDEO_TS - AUDIO_TS structures. Whatever your authoring program outputs is likely to be useable in the new version of ImgBurn.

    You're welcome, didikai.

  14. I started having problems after I updated it about 2-3 weeks ago. Today I went to Nero homepage and they have a complete replacement for earlier versions of Nero 7. You have to uninstall the old version to update it....if you try just to install the update, you'll get an error msg that tells you to uninstall the old Nero 7. You might try that if you haven't already.
