Hi all, I am new to this forum, and new to the entire VCD burning scene. For Christmas, I got an Apex AD-1500, which by the looks of things I was very lucky to get for VCD purmposes. Ok, on to the questions:
I burned my first XSVCD, and it played with little boxes all over the screen, skipped frames, and had choppy and pretty bad audio. I followed the directions for the TmpgEnc for doing this, and have all the software needed.
I was confused about the calculating the bitrate(and could use some help there), and was hoping someone out there had templates for the AD-1500, for SVCD's and XSVCD's (or something comperable). Is there a place in this site to download templates? Also, what is Macrovision? Is this a good or bad thing? In one of the reviews for my DVD player I saw one that said you could disable the firmware for it.
Lastly, what format (SVCD, XSVCD, and so on) will give the absolute best quality? I dont really care about less minutes on a cd, because I would rather have the quality.
I could use all the help from you guys as I can. I have read many posts, and a lot of you really know what the hell you are talking about, and know a hell of a lot more than me.
THanks.

the apex 1500 is listed as 3000 kb/sec max for xsvcd so make sure you dont go over (which would cause frame skipping and other anomoly(sp))
if you have to with 3000 svcd is probably plenty good enough
there are templates in the 'Tools' section to the left
macrovision is copy protection. sorta like what you see in most vcr tapes.. tv picture looks good but recordings fade in and out. there is also another form of protection in alot of dvds (CSS) that also blocks writing (if the writing device acknologes the protection code. then there is region protection as well
xsvcd (at 720x480)offers the best quality with dvd source and a high enough bitrate ( 4mb/sec or greater) for you, imo, a svcd (480x480) at your max (3mb/sec) which would make it a xsvcd because of the bitrate
