I needed to convert some songs off of a CD from AIFF to WAV for a video project. I didn't want to have to open up iTunes, change the default encoder, and tell it to import the songs, then delete them from iTunes, yada yada yada. (The songs are not mine, but for a video that I am making for the owner of the songs)
I thought that it might be best to use ffmpegX instead. That way I could have all the songs being converted at the same time, without any of the iTunes stuff. But ffmpegX claimed that the AIFF files were of Unknown Type.

Anyone else think that is kind of strange?

ffmpegX reads my AIFF file fine, however there is no 'convert to WAV' selection.

How did you think to convert all the songs at the same time? Afaik, each file conversion has to be started individually. Unlike iTunes, where you can drag-n-drop all your songs in a playlist and let it process them all consecutive. Seems quite efficient to me.

  3. You are using a wrong application. Use SoundGrinder. It should allow you to use it for free for 30 days, I think. I cannot remember for the moment if there are any freeware titles to do the job.

Audacity, iTunes, and probably about fifty others. Do a search at macupdate.com for "audio convert".

Case: I meant that I could start all of them, and they would finish faster than iTunes's approach of starting each one individually and adding it to the Library. In any case I'll try ffmpegX again, perhaps not directly from the CD.

    Thanks everyone.
