  1. I am trying to burn "8 Below". I guess Disney has some copyright protection, because when I tried to DVD SHrink it, it didn't work. Then I tried DVD Fab Decrypter, it didnt work either, because it said something like the first vob file was corrupt. Now I am trying to original dvd decrypter.

I am not too familiar with the settings, but under "mode" there is 1) file, 2) IFO and 3 ISO. I just want to burn the whole movie. So I left it at file. Whats the difference? What can I use if DVD Shrink and DVD fab and DVD Decrypter all don't work?

    AnyDVD?
But a latest DVDFab Decrypter should work, if the disc isn't physically damaged (scrathed/dirty).
I'm pretty sure DVDDecrypter won't hack it, if DVDFab doesn't...

ISO mode just makes a 1:1 copy, in ifo mode, you can select streams, chapters etc.

DVDDecrypter is no longer updated, while DVDFab is constantly so, keeping up with the latest fair use violations (=copy protections).

  7. Anyone can tell me the difference b/t "File mode" and "ISO mode"???
ISO copies the whole dvd like a 1 to 1? Then what is file mode?

File Mode is used if you want the same structure as the original(eg.IFO,.BUP,.VOB),DVDShrink can handle ISO or file. You might try Ripit4Me.

  9. AFAIK, all Disney DVDs have protection. The last one I backed up had Ripguard, I tried RipIt4Me on it, no problem. You might try that, or the PgcEdit method with the PSL2 Plugin Wizard. Good luck.

  10. moviegeek and fritzi,

Why would it encode everything with dvd decrypter? It's when I use DVD Shrink to "open file", it says "invalid data in the vob file 1". Do you think its the disc that is bad?

It's possible that the files have ARCCOS copy-protection or a corrupted VOB,your best defense is to use Ripit4Me.DVDDecrypter or DVDFab Decrypter will rip whatever is on a disc but won't repair a corrupted VOB or IFO...you need FixVTS or PGCEdit to do that.
EDIT:I see DVDFab Decrypter was updated today.

  12. what does "cyclical redundancy" in DVD Shrink mean? Does it mean the dvd is scratched and dirty?

usually yes, but it could also be because it hasn't had the protection correctly removed. have you tried ripping the disc correctly with ripit4me, as suggested by many patient people ?

The DVD writing part from DVDDecrypter, still developed, and still the best app to burn DVD images to disc.

Make sure you are using DVD Fab Decrypter, not DVD Fab.

dvdfab decrypter and dvddecrypter are different softwares and they do similar things .... but one is constantly updated and the other is no longer updated. Hence for newer movies you need the one that is constantly updated.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  20. For a completely free solution, use RipIt4Me. It makes use of the old stand-bys DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and then throws in FixVTS.

It does not matter to RipIt4Me that DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are no longer updated. They are still very useful even for the most recent copy protected titles. RipIt4Me uses the constantly updated FixVTS to fix the rip made by DVD Decrypter before importing to DVD Shrink. It's all done in an easy to follow, automated process.

Since using RipIt4me, I have ceased regularly using the sledgehammer called DVDFab Decrypter. True, DVDFab Decrypter can get by most all copy protection, but it ignores so many errors that you really can't tell if you have a good disc until you actually play it. I've gotten a few so called "good rips" with it only to find out that the files were still a little flakey. I will still use DVDFab Decrypter on very stubborn or scratched discs.

  21. Ripit4me has 3 modes
    1) Rip full DVD
    2) Rip Movie only
    3) Rip in ISO mode

I want to burn a complete copy of movies 1 to 1, So I assume I choose option #1. But option #2 makes sense since I want the whole movie (maybe this doesnt include menus?) Matt.hogsberg told me that option #3 means it burns it 1:1 so do I choose this?

  22. For full disc (including menus and extras) use the Rip Full DVD mode. (This is assuming you're wanting to shrink to a single layered disc.)

The Movie Only mode is just that... the movie only. No extras or menus.

They suggest using the ISO mode only for doing true 1 to 1 copying which usually will require a dual layered DVD burner and dual layered discs. No shrinking involved.

Check out the easy to follow RipIt4Me guide here...

  23. ok cool, i have a single layer Ritek dvd-r. I think it is only 4.6 gigs, so I would have to use #1.

Let's suppose I do have a 9 gig dual layer dvd-r. Can I use the #1 option, or do I have to use #3?
What happens if I use single layer 4.7 gig with the #3 option...will it not work?

  24. Looking at the guide, it doesn't seem that Option 3 (ISO mode) will allow you to properly shrink the file if needed. This mode should only be used if you're backing up a dual layered DVD to a dual layered DVD-R or +R or a single-layered to a single layered.

If you try to back-up a dual layered DVD to a single layered DVD-R using Option 3, the resulting file will not fit as it will not have been shrunk.

So, yes, you'll need to use Option 1 (Rip Full DVD) for backing up a dual layered DVD with all the menus and extras to a single layered DVD-R.
