  1. Hi,

My tv / dvd player doesnt support ntsc to I have to convert all ntsc titles to pal. I tried many different ways but THE ONLY way that works is to use a program called dvd2svcd, which converts them perfectly (no stuttering etc)

I have 3 avis (hdtv xvid) of a football match and I have used the full version of svcd2dvd to join them and make them into a dvd. This works fine, I have watched the created dvd on my computer and all is well.

However, if I then use this newly created dvd in dvd2svcd to convert to pal, the resulting pal dvd is very jerky??? Why would this be? All other ntsc conversions have always worked without a problem?

Could it be that the original avi's were 23fps and not 29 fps? (how would I find out what fps they were?). When I use ifoedit to look at the created ntsc dvd, it says the fps is 30 which is correct for ntsc, so why wouldnt it convert to pal correctly?

    any help is appreciated

    Many Thanks

It is likely that the source was 23fps, pulldown is then used to goto 29fps... so when going to 25fps you should indicated that it is 23fps with pulldown rater than 29fps.

You would need to drop the avis into the asset bin of SVCD2DVD to see if they are NTSC (29fps) or NTSC-Film (23fps).

As an experiment you can convert from NTSC-Film to NTSC without pulldown in SVCD2DVD to see if that improves things.

  3. Just checked and the original avi's are 29 fps

Have tried with and without pulldown but still the same, created pal dvd is jerky but the ntsc one is fine?

    Weird

  4. What is Deinterlace?

In dvd2svcd there are a few options for this like:

    No deinterlacing
    Smart Deinterlace
    Blendfields
    Seperae fields/select every (pal)
    Verticalreduceby2 (pal)
    Telecide (pal)
    Keep interlaced

I always leave it on "no Deinterlacing" but would any of the other setting help?

    Thanks

  5. Ok, I re-encoded the ntsc ouptut from svcd2dvd (which works ok) using dvd2svcd and the resulting ntsc dvd is also jerky??

So basically, the ntsc dvd made by svcd2dvd is fine, but when converted to pal or reencoded to ntsc is jerky. What would make that happen?

I have to say that i am not sure. Is there any insight into how the NTSC to PAL conversion is working?

  8. Sounds like a possible interlaced field order problem.
Does it look like this at all:
