I have downloaded an avi file, I can play it with the computer but the audio doesn't play on my standalone divx player. I would like to reprocess just the audio and change it from 48.000 to 44.000. I have tried with virtual dub, but I always get a file which is double the size of the original.
Can anybody suggest what the correct settings are to leave the video as it is and reprocess only the audio?

    Thanks

Make sure your video is set to Direct Stream Copy in virtualdub, so only the audio is processed. I am guessing that you are also probably creating Uncompressed PCM audio. Make sure you actually set some type of compression.

What player do you have ? I know mine will handle 48kHz audio without any problems.

Before doing too much work on it, post a g-spot or avicodec output of the file.

    Thanks for your help.
Normally I can play 48kHz, but not this file. I have converted the audio to 44kHz and it plays perfectly. The file is twice the size of the original, maybe because I reprocessed the video too or chose the wrong settings for the audio. What compression/codec can I use to reduce the file size and be sure my DVD player will read it?

Like I said, leave video in Direct Stream Copy, and it won't be changed. Set you audio to something like MP3 @ 128 kbps and your file size should similar. I don't have any details about the original file, so I can't tell you how close it will be. If you know the details of the original audio, use the same settings.
