  1. Looking for suggestion on DVD Media DVD+/-R. I am working on a home project for the Christmas Holidays (Yes I know it’s only Aug). Would like to attempt to ensure that my home project will have the widest possible reliability in playing on a variety of DVD Players. I know task at hand is not going to easy. Open to all suggestion on the most common DVD Media to use. I will be utilizing TSUNAMI DVD Author Pro for this project, unless someone has a suggestion on other software product, will be processed on a Lite-On SHW-160H6S burner.

This will be for family and a few close friends, 15-20 DVD’s

Plan is to make a personal greeting as the opening on the lead in, I am going to pull a number of TV Christmas music videos I have from the original DVD’s to use in the project. I expect to have 10-12 videos on the DVD with menus.

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

TY media seems to have the best reputation. Have a look at nomorecoasters.com for more choices.

Basically, there is no such thing as universally playable writable media. There are simply too many variables to be able to guarantee that any disc you burn will play in any given player. Dye properties, surface properties, burn quality, compatability between players and media types, quality of the playback lasers/lens etc all factor into this.

The best recommendations I can give are :

    1. Use good quality media. Skimp here and forget it.

    2. Use a good burning program. I would not use the burning component of TDA - look for something more reliable. I use Prassi ONES, which has served me well.

    3. Test every disc. I test every burn by running it through the read test of DVD Info Pro. I also test every disc on my players.

    4. Be realistic in your expectations, and have a couple of spares ready in case one comes back.

I also would go with DVD-R media as well. TY and Verbatim media is all that I use.....I agree that you will need to test each DVD that you burn just to be safe.

  4. Thanks for all the responses. You are correct in that there are a lot of variables, Computer related, Software, Burning, Media etc. However I believe you have helped narrow down the risk involved. This is not going to be a complicated deal. It will be intended for family and friends at no cost to them. I have developed a template that I hope to follow. I own all the original DVD’s that I will pull the classic Christmas Videos from. Will report my progress. The other point all have made is in reference to testing, testing and more testing and that is exactly why I am starting now and not wait until December. In the past I would put together a number of classic Christmas MP3 tracks to an audio CD, send it out as a Music Christmas Card. Thanks again for all comments.
