  1. Hi, yesterday I was uploading video to my computer from a camcorder. The camcorder is a Sony Digital Handycam model DCR-TRV350 I believe. Well, while I was uploading, my camera shut off due to the lack of enough battery power. I left the camcorder hooked up to the computer while it charged. I also shut down my computer and turned it on leaving the camcorder connected by a firewire cable (4pin to 6pin). I am thinking that is probably my problem. Maybe the computer recognized the deviced and made it a permanent hardware device? This would make sense, but the camcorder has to be off to charge. Anyway, after charging, I turned on the camcorder, and the computer did not recognize. Usually, the computer has a menu asking me what I want to do with the device. Well that didn't happen, and no noise occured on the computer to let me know it recognized it. I restarted my computer and tried again; still nothing. However, I did notice, when I am connecting the firewire to the camcorder (while in VCR mode), it say DV IN for a moment and then goes back to saying 16 Bit.

What I want to know, is what is wrong. Is it the cable? The camera? The computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

It should say "DV In" if you have a solid connection.

I would turn everything off including the camcorder. Then boot the computer. Then connect the cables with the camcorder off. Then switch the camcorder to VCR mode. It should connect. If not, repeat.

Sometimes the computer gets stuck in a funny mode that needs a few reboots to clear.

  3. I have tried that, and no luck. I connected it to my brothers computer, and it managed to have a steady DV IN. So it has to be with my computer. I will keep trying to reboot my computer and try again. Thanks.

If that doesn't work, you can try uninstalling the driver in Device Manager and let it reinstall during reboot.

Probably what edDV said as for some reason out of the blue, I had the same issue last week with my Sony TRV350.

It would pick up for 5 mins of capture & then not be found or recognised.
Worked on a reboot but then would not be found again for the next session.

Ended up physically openning up case & swapping firewire card to another pin and it worked again........but edDV's easier option does the same thing without a torch, attack of the daddy longlegs and risk of asthma .
