I have a DVDR610/05 with the usual BLOCKED symptom. When pressing eject it briefly tries to open and then closes again with BLOCKED message. It will not read any disc.

One recommended solution is the SABL IC repair kit available from Signals UK for about £13. I see that at least some of the mods in the SABL IC repair kit (order 12NC: 9965 000 29182) have been fitted to mine as the caps and diode are there. But the SA56202TW IC has a mark on it that looks like a burnt spot. It has the numbers on it CD1783 03 and TPN0443 Y or TPN0449 Y. Is this a pre or post week 0512 chip?
The Prod. No. on back of case is VN1E0448 108452

Some other chips on the drive board are dated 0528 so looks like the set was manufactured some time after that week.

So, assuming the SABL is the new type, is there any record of the new ones failing and are the fault symptoms the same as for the old one? Is there any point in my buying a12NC: 9965 000 29182 kit and fitting it?

Some others posting elsewhere expressed doubts about changing such an IC with such small leads, but as an electronic engineer, I think I can do it.
