ConvertXToDVD error "file is already in a file cluster - skipped"

Hello,

When I drop multiple AVIs onto ConvertXToDVD, I get this error for every file except the first one.

If drop them one by one, it accepts them but then the conversion fails complaining that it's a common problem with TV rips.

All my other TV ripped files work fine tho. I checked them in Gspot and they are both XVID NTSC with MP3 audio streams.

You could also try VSO's support forums if you purchased Convertxtodvd.

So ConvertXtoDVD tells you this is a problem with TV Rips ?

If the files are 101 -> 122 and named that way, it almost sounds like Convertxtodvd may be recognising them as a series of the same feature (just like CD1 and CD2, and so on) and by adding the first file, you are adding all of them already.

An easy way to test would be to rename the 2nd episode, then try adding the first and second episodes only, and see if the problem persists.

IIRC stream 0.0 is normally video, which indicates perhaps that it is unable to decode the video stream. Take note that GSpot tells you "Codec misconfigured!" in the video section also.

The log file extract is from an attempt to encode the first episode only. So I suppose that rules out the file clustering message as a cause of the conversion failure?

I also tried to encode the same ep with TMPGEnc and it worked.

Gspot reports the same codec misconfig on other AVIs (obviously) but ConvertXToDVD has no problem with them.

So it must be some kind of inconsistency in the file that ConvertXToDVD can't handle. I'd rather not have to go back to encoding everything with TMPGEnc. The AVIs play fine in Winamp btw. Is there anything about that can spot/repair problems in an AVI?

Have you tried opening a problem file in Virtualdub, and saving it again in Direct Stream Copy mode. This can sometimes repair minor issues that can cause encoders to choke.

When I open the file in VirtualDub I get this message. I think it means that when it has corrected the audio stream, it'll be out of synch with the video, right? But since it's an MP3 audio stream that's a one-way lossy conversion so how can I decompress it to WAV?

Ok - I opened it VirtualDubMod, got the same error but was offered YesNo instead and took No. Selected audio stream and saved the WAV then disabled that stream and added the WAV as a new audio stream and saved another AVI. Now it's out of synch.

Is there any way of fixing that?

Streams->Stream List. Right-click and hit Interleaving. Adjust the Audio Skew figure in milliseconds. A negative number will make the audio sta earlier, a positive number will make it start later.

That said, ConvertXtoDVD is one of the few that seems to handle VBR MP3 audio pretty well most of the time. It certainly encode it without issue, and most of the time it preserves sync.
