    Hello there,

I am new to the whole DVD/Film and Final Cut Pro so need some advice!

    History:
I have some old footage from video Hi8 tapes that a friend has put onto DVD's for me using his panasonic DVD recorder. I want to now import the footage into Final Cut Pro to edit and cut and make into a smart DVD's with menus and such like.
I have taken the VIDEO_TS file from the DVD and place it onto my hard drive of my iMac G5 with 60gig of space and 1.5GB of memory.
    The VIDEO_TS file is 2.6gig

    Problem:
I tried to import the VIDEO_TS file into Final Cut Pro but I get a general error message and only a small bit of the file imports. I know a general error is vague but can any advice be offered? Such as do I need more space for a 2.6gig import? Is my memory sufficient?

    I hope someone can help??

    Cheers Laura

    As a workaround:

MPEG Streamclip - drop the first VOB onto the app and, when it asks if it should open all of them, "ok" this. Then export to DV. Anticipate 15GB of hard drive space required per hour of footage for the DV. FCP will then have no problem using that DV footage.

I have tried the MPEG stream clip..... it imports into that correctly and it takes all the VOB's and I can see all the footage, when I come to export it to DV not all of it is converting. Do I have to do each VOB individually?
Am I doing something wrong? This is so frustrating!
Is it the way I recoreded the footage onto DVD from a video 8 tape using a panasonic video recorder?

    Cheers

It sounds to me that there are time code breaks in the video which is common with DVD recorders. MPEG Streamclip should have given you a message when you opened the VOB set that time code breaks were present. There is a menu item in Streamclip to fix the breaks. Do that. Then do it again to see if it worked. If there are no more breaks then the export will work well.

If it doesn't work, do you have Toast 7?

or ffmpegx for that matter, and do the same thing
as you would have with MpegStreamclip?

    Hello,

My friend has used TMPGEnc on a windows comp to remove the chapters from the DVD and then re-burned to a DVD. I can now import it all into iMove!
How can I do this myself on a mac?
    What program can I use?
Why is this such a problem on the mac?

    Hope you can help?

    Cheers!
