    i've been using virtual vcr to capture avi to a 7800gt nivedia card. i had been capturing 740 x 480. i tried other settings & now it seems i can only capture up to 640 x480. it gives me an error message. what happened?

    Try reinstalling the software or the codec you are using.
    And if you tell us the error message, people can help easily.

    well when i select video tab & change settings (size) the apply button never ungrays. if i check the box custom settings on video tab & click ok & try to save settings i get an error ---cannot set video format E fail:80004005. i tried uninstalling & reinstalling but can't get 740 x 480. i don't know what codec i need to reinstall. i was capturing in 740 x 480 before

    Wasn't it 720x480? AFAIK 740x480 is not a standard resolution.

    ok that was that problem. maybe i'll pay closer attention. there is one more problem. i can't seem to be able to compress the audio on the captured avi. i plan on archiving the avi cutting it & putting it on a dvd (as a data file?) i figure if i compress the audio it will lower the size to need fewer dvd's to do the job. if i try to play the avi with compressed audio there is no sound or maybe a second at the very beginning & then cuts right off. if i use media info it says there is audio with the avi.

    What compression are you using? I would try MP3 128Mbps CBR.
    If you still have problems you can captured with uncompressed audio, separate (demultiplex) audio and video, compress the audio and then multiplex them again.
