I can't stand it when a semi drives in the left lane... that's just annoying.

Round About?
Actually we have a few here in the States too. And it gets worse. First a few of them were not really meant to be traffic circles, they usually started out as like a town square that went around a park or the courthouse or something like that. Then with development and increased traffic load they turned them into all oneway streets usually going counterclockwise. The problem here was the stop light/sign at every coner and the grid lock that goes with it. Then they will take a couple of the eight or more streets that would feed and drain the should be circle and make them one ways with a paralle street going the other way. But wait! It gets better. So they try to go to a full circle by rounding off the inside corners and beautifing the flower pots in the economically dying old town square. The problem here is that at four corners, often more, are left as 90 degree intersections tied to a would be traffic circle with varing turn possibilities, no clear lane markings and a population too stupid to know any better. Actually, I kind of like the thrill of getting thru one without swapping paint!IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
Why? They have just as much right to be there as you providing they are following the rules of the road.Originally Posted by shelbyGT

Although alot of times they don't!!
Nothing worse than wanting to get around traffic and you have two semi's drag racing each other on the highway

What is a semi?
Talking of roundabouts in the US, there is one in Kingston which seems to work very well. -
Well they wouldn't be following the rules of the road. They have areas like that here in PA as well, mostly on hills on the Interstate or inner city roads. Most of these are 3 lane highways and they don't want them in the farthest left lane.Originally Posted by Noahtuck

It's slang for a large tractor-trailer. According to wikipedia the trailer portion is referred to as a semi-trailer because it has no front axle. Guess that's a throwback to farm trailers that commonly have 2 axles. The Majority of goods are delivered via truck in the US. It's even common to say have two drivers working in tandem making cross country trips in less than 3 days. The interstate system is quite extensive in the US. Considered the largest single public works project ever undetaken by man.Originally Posted by Corkhead

The Interstste system, the blue indicates limited access highways... no lights stops etc. you can drive from New York to San Francisco non-stop... excluding traffic jams.
