    Hi,

I'm working on putting a wedding video to DVD and was wondering about fade effects in Vegas. Things like having the picture fade in as a heart shape, or star, something along the lines of that. Is there any way to do this in Vegas, or do I need to find a plugin to do it?

    Thanks

Thanks for the info. I should have worded my original post better. The effect I'm going for is that it starts with a black screen with a heart that starts out small with the video in the middle and grows until the black screen has been replaced by the video. I think it looks cheesy, but the wife likes it, so I told her I'd see what I can do.

I hope that's a better description of what I'm looking for.

Do you want just the heart to grow, while the video remains the same size behind it, or the two to grow together ?

Just to get you started, try this. Add a clip to the timeline. Click o the Even Pan/Crop icon on the clip. Set the zoom level (in the Workspace section on the left) to 12.5. Grab a corner a corner anchor, and drag it out to make the video shrink. Move the position slider all the way to the right, and drag the corner anchor back in until the image again fills the preview frame. You have now set a start and end key frame to grow the video from small to large. Close the event pan/crop window and test the timeline to see the preview.

You can apply the same theory to a mask. Create an image of a heart in greyscale in photoshop. Black on the outside, transparent in the middle. Save it as a .png with transparency. Drag this onto a timeline above your video, and do the event pan/crop thing to it. You should get a heart (or whatever shape you make) shaped video growing out of the black.

If you just the grow the mask, then the video will just play behind it. If you also grow the video, the effect will look much smarter.
